(Skim)
(Active Recall)

The Morning That Taught Me How I Read
I forgot my MacBook password,
and the screen told me to wait three hours before trying again.
It was supposed to be a morning for interview prep,
but everything came to a sudden stop.
With no laptop to turn to, I started cleaning.
Dusting corners, wiping surfaces, moving nonstop—
my body stayed busy while my mind felt rushed.
I turned on an audiobook while cleaning,
but none of it stayed with me.
Was I bad at multitasking?
Or was it simply because I’m a visual learner?
That moment made something clear:
I don’t learn by listening first.
I learn by seeing, writing, and organizing my thoughts.
Rebuilding a Reading Routine That Actually Fits
I realized I’d been approaching reading too vaguely.
I planned the time—“read for two hours”—
but never clarified how I would read.
So I decided to rebuild a routine
that matched how my brain actually works.
My 2-Hour Reading Routine (8:00–10:00 AM)
1️⃣ 5 minutes – Set intention
Why am I reading this?
What do I want from this session?
2️⃣ 20 minutes – Structural skim
I scan headings, subheadings, the introduction, and conclusion.
Not to understand everything,
but to create a mental map of the text.
3️⃣ 45–60 minutes – Deep visual reading
I read with a pen—highlighting, annotating, summarizing.
After each section, I write one sentence in my own words.
4️⃣ 15–20 minutes – Active recall
I close the book and write what I remember,
what confused me, and what I could explain to someone else.
5️⃣ 15–20 minutes – Audiobook reinforcement
I listen only to reinforce what I’ve already read—
often while stretching or cleaning.
6️⃣ 15–20 minutes – Short written review
A few bullet points or key takeaways are enough
to make the knowledge my own.
When Plans Fall Apart
Forgetting my password unexpectedly gave me clarity.
Not every disrupted plan is wasted time.
Sometimes, it’s an invitation
to understand ourselves a little better.
